Alan Brooks

Alan Brooks makes work by collecting images he finds scrawled on the walls of public toilets, bus seats found drawings by children, and other anonymous artists. He takes photographs or rubbings of these images back to his studio and makes extremely detailed and obsessive studies in watercolour. Using tiny brushes and magnifying glasses, the paintings take many months to produce, transforming the often quick and disposable gesture into a highly crafted artwork. Alan Brooks has had a number of Solo shows including Mobile Home Gallery, London; Percy Miller Gallery, London; Galerie Albrecht, Munich, Germany and Marlene Eleini Gallery, London. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions and prizes including; John Moores 20, 21 & 24, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Paul Morris Gallery, New York, USA; EAST International, Norwich; Oriel Mostyn Open, Oriel Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno, Wales; and the Jerwood Painting Prize, Jerwood Gallery, London. His drawings are about to appear in a new publication on paper works in the Saatchi Collection.
